Stagnorians originate in the Delta Quadrant, 86,000 Light years from the
Federation, which translates into an approximate 88 year trip at high warp.
They share a border 12 parsecs long with the Borg, which has resulted in
over 86 different encounters with Borg forces, and provided for much of why
Stagnorians are extremely advanced militarily.  Much of Stagnorian knowledge of the Universe and other cultures is tapped from a Captured Borg Computer core and continually-monitored Borg transmission frequencies.

Just because they're far from the Delta Quadrant doesn't mean far from
the Borg's reach.  There has been one notable Battle between Stagnorian and Borg forces in the Alpha Quadrant.  Referred to as the Valdin incident (though it is more commonly known as the Valdin Massacre) a Stagnorian Task force of 32 ships fought 12 Borg Cubes and lost more then 50% of the fighting force and 3 Colonies in the Sector before repelling the attack.  This resulted in revised Tactics meant to work in the new Quadrant.

Discovered by the Federation in 2374, the Stagnorian Confederation of
Allied Worlds (SCAW) consists of over 3 dozen member races, ranging from the Garidians in the Beta Quadrant, to the Ralinites in the Deep Alpha Quadrant, with more expansion soon hoped as the Borg become an ever more dangerous threat in the Delta Quadrant.  All too often Stagnorians are minorities on their own colonies because of the flow of Refugees retreating from the Borg.

There has never been a Stagnorian Civil War.  It is deeply wrong to shoot
another Stagnorian, and to do so means to be closed out from all.  They
follow a certain principle, that 'no animal murders one of its own species.'
An accident or 2 have happened and resulted in catastrophic punishments for those who fired.

Weapons were only conceived of when there was a skirmish with a race
called the Sarikins.  In the first battle Stagnorians used lasers meant for mining against large troop deposits.  This developed into hand-held weapons and rifles, and eventually phasers.

After the Sarikin war, Stagnorians inherited a great deal of weapons
technology and copied it for their own use, creating starships of comparable
size to the Miranda Class ship, but more powerful.

The Borg struck 50 years later, after there was already a Confederation.
Confederation ships were pounded by the 3 Borg Cubes sent.  But the ability
to produce large numbers of fast and powerful ships helped and eventually won out, and a Borg Cube Computer core was captured.

The Core lead to advancement after advancement.  Once the Alpha Matrix
code was broken it revealed a treasure trove of technology.  Leading to the
first transwarp engines, bio-regenerative technology, and lots of information
in weapons, medicine, and science.  Stagnorian ships grew stronger and
stronger, defeating the Borg more easily with each approach.  As the Borg
adapted so did they, allowing them to maintain the border.

It was an accident that lead to the Stagnorian ability to travel to
multiple quadrants.  Supposed "enhancements" on a transwarp drive created a semi-stable but extremely short-lived wormhole.  When these "enhancements" were modified and enhanced themselves, it created a power source and the ability to travel at greater lengths in shorter periods of time.  Called "Jump Engines",   they literally allowed ships to "jump" from one quadrant to another.   Currently, a 4 year mission is being planned to use an all new Jump Engine to travel to the Andromeda Galaxy,  a feat never before achieved.

Stagnorian Home World

The Stagnorian Home World has many different climates.  Among them are
Tundra, Jungle, Temperate, Frozen desert, hot desert, forest, rain forest,
mountainous, prairie, river basin, plateau, hills, swampland, and a unique
climate consisting of extremely muddy terrain and many small plants.
Beaches outline the coast of 3 out of the 11 Continents on the Home World,
and Bogs, lagoons, thermal heated water pools, and Volcanoes are present
throughout the world.

More then three-quarters of the planet is protected by an advanced weather
control system, while the rest is reserved for natural phenomina... in part
because of the demand by local residents to be allowed to live with the
natural eliments.  This has been a problem, especially when natural
desasters strike.

Stagnoria orbits a whitish blue  trinary star center, and has 2 Class M
planets, Stagnoria Beta and Stagnoria Delta... Stagnoria Gamma is one of
the 3 moons, also habitable.  The star system is remarkably free of space
hazards, the only asteroid belt in orbit around the suns.  The Solar system
is home to a Large space dock, 2 smaller Star bases, a currently inactive
defensive platform grid, 3 separate ship building/way stations, A Long
Range sensor scope, 2 Research and Development yards, and over 50 science
research and 30 Military Industrial facilities.

The Stagnorian Military is divided up into 4 sectors, the AQDF (Alpha
Quadrant Defense Force), BQDF (Beta Quadrant Defense Force), GQDF (Gamma Quadrant Defense Force) and the DQDF (Delta Quadrant Defense Force).  Each is designed to handle and provide aid to the Stagnorian worlds in their respective quadrant.  The largest force is the DQDF, the smallest  the AQDF which is mostly comprised of Retired vessels and Coast Guard Cutters which are approximately as strong as the Vessels in the Alpha Quadrant.  The Defense Forces are comprised of a Main Naval Force (The Stagnorian Armada) a Coast Guard, and a land force (The Rangers).  There are several subdivisions in each sector.

Basic Stagnorian Combat Rules

1.  In the field, when immediate decisions are necessary, the Captain acts
of his will.
2.  All potentionally hostile regions are to be approached as if a Battle
situation will insue.  Recomendations are full power to Tactical sensors
and shields, weapons on standby.
3.  In a tactical engagement, where more then 1 enemy vessels are present,
and there exists the possibility of enemy re-inforcements arriving, the
enemy vessels are to be stopped from retreating at all costs.
4.  Attacks on Stationary targets, where there exists no or little
probability of re-inforcements arriving for the enemy, are to be taken with
minimal force.

Common Stagnorian Attack Patterns

1.  Using the Star of a threat system to conceal the ship, or small task
forces and flatillas from sensors of enemy units.

2.  Circling Enemy Stationary targets and isolated units with ships and
firing on the inside, forcing the ships to stay together and increasing the
probability of succesful hits.

3.  Small attack forces in waves increase the probability of succesful
kills and higher defensive possistions.

4.  Stand off attack vectors with menuverable ships.

5.  High Attack Altitudes with Heavy Cruisers.

6.  Priority target systems are Communications (Sub Space) Shields, weapons.

7.  Flood system with Radio traffic to cut off enemy comms.<BR>

8.  Damage Control teams prioritize systems in Damage Control.  Exo-comps
called into service to aid in repairs.
1.Shields
2.Weapons
3.Hull
4.Impulse
5.Life Support

9.  When attacking Stations or ground installations close formation
increases damage to targeted areas and probability of hits.

10. Patrols around sensitive areas are to be no lighter then 2 patrol ships
of fair firepower.

Stagnorian society was and in some ways still is a matriarchial society,
based on the fact that females are generally stronger telepaths and
telekinetics then the males, although there are weak females and strong males in this area.  Their society is strongly religious, and there are strong
similarities between their religion and that of the Bajorans.

Stagnorians do get married, and like humans, the ideal marriage is
forever.  They have their own cultural writings, music, and artworks.  They
have a fondness for space and water traveling, navies playing a large part in
their society.

Stagnorians don't use money, or any trading unit of any kind.  Free
stuff!  This is because their religion states 'work for the advancement of
all' which has been taken to mean work without charge.  This has been
observed for over 3 melinia, and has caused problems when Stagnorians migrate to Federation colonies or vice versa, a currency based economic system hard to accept, and has led to some unrest on Federation/Stagnorian colonies.

Despite the deep seeded association with military power, Stagnorians
remain, in general, a peaceful people, passing down their traditions to
their families, and generally not a bother to anyone who doesn't bother
them.

Like most 'warrior' societies Stagnorians value family ties greatly, with
multiple generations in some cases living on the same land, or even the
same household.  It isn't uncommon for 60 to 100 people to occupy a single
plot of land, called Tandas or "Land of residency."  In many Tandas there
is a family farm, maybe a small industrial replicator, and some food
replicators, as most meals are eaten together.  Some family industries may
include farming, furniture, silver smithing, gold smithing, technology
maintenence, in addition to their 'day job.'  In most incidences children
help with running the family buisnesses.

Also like most 'warrior' societies battle training begins young.  Children
begin learning survival techniques, basic combat stratagies, and weapons
handling.  By the time of 12 or 13 most Stagnorians who are gifted in
combat techniques are enrolled into special units for enhanced training.
Those who wish to enter civilian life generally do around the age of 18
before the choice is made to enroll into the Armada University or Rangers
Academy.

Stagnorians are extremely pious, almost every family having at least one
templish room in their household, usually outside to be closer to nature.

Physically, Stagnorians seem to most to be a mixture of several different races, though they are not.  Typical characteristics include Vulcan type pointed ears, a ridged Bajoran-like nose, and spots in the same location and very similar to those of a joined Trill, though far more sensitive.  Their hair is usually a dark brown or black, and the eyes are dark, usually brown, black or green.  Typical height is around 5'7" to 6' for both male and female.  Their weight is slightly more than that of a terran mostly because of their more dense bone structure and musculature.

Stagnorians have extremely long lives, measuring an average of 2,500
Terran years.  Considering they have that long an age and thus a longer breeding period, there is a greatly higher populus than most species, and thus a higher necessity for territory.  Ship Construction and Colonization are Major Stagnorian Objectives, to stabilize population.  This political and
territorial expansion isn't without it's penalites, and in the 2370's alone
there have been 3 major skirmishes in the Alpha Quadrant, most notably with Cardassian and Dominion forces over the former Maquis Colonies in the Badlands.

Personality-wise, Stagnorians, for all their military prowess and lifestyle, are peaceful individuals.   Strong and noble, they are perhaps more serious minded in regard to their higher ideals.  Family and country come first and foremost, their religion being equally as important.  They may sometimes even appear a little naive, but don't be fooled.   They are highly intelligent and possess telepathic and telekinetic powers that are formidible if trained properly.he Stagnorian Family

sharlin1.jpg (60120 bytes) Stagnorian Biology

Stagnorians are extremely well equipped for some of the harshest environments.  They have an extremely fast and extroadinarily efficient metabolic system, allowing them to maximize the amount of food and water available while being able to survive comfortably in a variety of extremely hot, cold, rainy, sunny, snowy or any of many other environments.   This allows them to maximize the amount of livable space on a planet because of population control difficulties.  There is a downside, being because of their metabolic rate medicines, mostly pain killers, are very short lasting, and nutrient rich cells allow for rapid viral or bacterial growth.  If not for an enhanced immune system the smallest cut may pose great danger.

Strength wise Stagnorians are about as strong, agile, and endurant as
Vulcans, making them among the best equipped for guirella warfare.  They
also have enhanced vision and hearing, nearly 5 times stronger vision then
humans, and twice the hearing capacity.  Touch is enhanced by the Trillish
spots on their body, the most sensitive part of the body.

Their Bajoran-like ridges on their noses is a result of an increased
hormonal level, possibly caused by the same chemicals responsible for
sometimes powerful telepathic and telekinetic skills possesed by the
population, and there has been recorded changes in the ridges 'ridginess'
with increased stress or rest.
