Background:

Qas Lorak is only one of many alias' that this man has used throughout his long and illustrious life.   Born on Cardassia Prime on September 28, 2318, not much is known about his past.   Only that he suffered through a torturous childhood at the hands of an overbearing father before turning to the Cardassian military and the occupation of Bajor.

Notice: The following is classified information and is provided here only for background purposes.  The secrets divulged herein shall be revealed at a later date.

237-2.jpg (4001 bytes) It was during the occupation that Gul Madred, his true name, gained his notoriety for being a cold, cruel and vicious man.  It was even rumoured that he was a top official for the infamous Obsidian Order, but naturally, this could never be verified.  His most illustrious deed was probably when he captured and tortured the famous Jean Luc Picard of the Federation Starship Enterprise.  After this, he joined his fellow Cardassians on Bajor, turning his own brand of terrorism to the hapless citizens during the Occupation.

This event changed his life forever.

Under orders from Cardassian High Command, Gul Madred ordered his men to destroy an entire Bajoran camp, women, children, anything that moved was to be killed, and the camp burned to the ground.   Madred even joined in himself, shooting down any Bajorans that were unlucky enough to be seen.  The last Bajoran he struck down was a small woman as she rounded the corner of a building trying to escape.  She fell out of sight and the evil Gul wanted to make sure of her 'condition'.  As he approached the woman's still body, he saw, to his surprise, a small child, desperately clutching her dead mother's arm, trying to 'awaken' her.

This caused something deep within Madred to snap and he was instantly changed, filled with remorse and self loathing for what he had done and become.  As a frightened elderly Bajoran man looked on, refusing to admit any knowledge of the child, Madred bent down and picked up the little girl, who was, by now, crying, and clutched her tightly.  He then wandered out of the camp, as if in a daze, and found a Bajoran temple, leaving her with the Vedek to take care of.  He then just disappeared. madred.jpg (8026 bytes)

End of classified information.

Under a new identity, Duri Jikan, as he now went by, dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of Bajorans, even going so far as to organize an underground by which many Bajorans were saved.  After the occupation, he turned to helping his own people under the tyrannical Dominion rule.  He was a loner, but an excellent leader and soon had authorities dreading the name of Duri Jikan and his freedom fighters.   Before long, he had a price on his head and, at the urging of the few close friends he had, disappeared again to save his own life.

Assuming yet another identity, Qas Lorak became the editor in chief of the brand new newspaper on the colony New Edinburgh.  Being relatively obscure and located on the far edge of the galaxy, he figured it as safe a place as any for him to try to live out his remaining years in relative peace.  So he thinks.

Personality:

madred2.jpg (2295 bytes)

Qas Lorak is a large and powerfully built man, gentle and regal and mysterious in bearing.  He is quiet and keeps to himself, still very much the loner.  He doesn't have any friends and almost seems to prefer it that way.  He enjoys reading, and listening to classical music.  There also seems to be a deep, penetrating sadness about him, that those more attuned to people can pick up unmistakeably.  He seems kind enough, but there is always a little hint of something else just below the surface.
